Aquatics International has a quick news piece this month on how chemical costs and particularity chlorine costs continue to rise. The article notes that from summer of 2008 through early 2009 the price of chemicals have climbed anywhere from 15 to 30 percent. This is not to mention mid-season and 2010 price increases.
The article goes on to explain that the factors leading to the higher costs of packaged chlorine go beyond raw material costs. The other factors driving up the price also include higher costs of packaging and shipping.
John Whitmore, president of the National Recreation and Parks Association Aquatics division and, recreation superintendent for Denton, Texas, is quoted in the article as saying "I think the long-term result will be that operators will be taking longer looks at chlorine generation such as with saltwater pools."
